Online business - learning franchise

My name is Alex Genadinik. I've been in Elearning since 2014 and have over 500,000 students. Here is my Udemy teaching profile. In this article, we'll cover:

Ideal online course length and different strategies for experienced and first-time instructors.

Which Courses Sell Best?

Longer courses tend to sell best because prospective students usually assume that longer courses have more content and are therefore better. This is obviously false, but it doesn't stop this faulty thinking in the minds of prospective students. With that in mind, ideal courses are over at least four hours in video duration and longer if they are on complex topics like software engineering or anything else technical.

Ideal Course Length For Courses Made By First-Time Instructors

If you are a first-time instructor, it's important to launch your first course and get initial students into it. For that reason, you should aim for a shorter course that is two to three hours in length at most. You can always add content to the course after you launch it. In fact, you should be improving your courses continuously.

If students don't like your short course and leave bad reviews, you can take that course down and re-launch it after you improve the issues that students didn't like.

Standard Course Lengths

In general, technology courses should be 4-10 hours in length. It's not uncommon for technology or programming courses to be longer, but the common range is 4-10 hours.

If your course is on business or marketing, that is also a good length for a course.

If you are making a niche course on some sub-topic in your field, you can have a course that is about an hour long. The minimum length of video in a Udemy course is 30 minutes. In any case, do your best to get at least one hour of video because courses that are under one hour feel very thin to students and they will be much less likely to buy it.

Popular Video Formats

Common course video formats are talking head videos, picture-in-picture videos, and screencast videos. The easiest format to start with is the screencast because you don't have to appear in the video, which means that you don't have to worry about lighting, how you dress, posture, or anything else related to your appearance. The only thing you have to worry about is how you present and how well you explain.

Video And Audio Equipment You Will Need

You don't have to buy equipment if you are on a low budget. Plus, you only need a limited set of equipment for each video genre you choose. Of course, if you have the budget for it, buying better audio and video equipment will immediately help you upgrade your course quality.
