Do Students Like Quizzes?
When I take courses as a student, I skip quizzes. That led me to assume that quizzes are useless for all students and I didn't add them to my courses for a long time. But when I began taking student surveys about what they preferred, about half of the students said they liked quizzes.
How Particular Are Students About Quizzes?
Students who take quizzes are very particular about the quiz quality because they use quizzes to reinforce their learning to make sure that they learned everything they needed to. So your questions must be interesting and challenging. If the quiz questions are too simple, students will complain and feel frustrated.
How Many Quizzes Should A Course Have?
A course should have a quiz after every section. In each quiz there should be a few questions. Three to seven questions is a good amount of questions to have per quiz as long as the quiz questions are not too basic and not too complex.
When I first began creating course quizzes, my questions were not great and students were not happy. My course questions only improved over time after many students complained that my courses questions were too basics. Improving over time is just a matter of being a good instructor. No one starts at their best. People become the best instructors they can be after wanting to improve.
